Buying Vintage
By buying vintage, you are making an environmentally friendly choice, and giving a home to an item with a long history. Furniture dating from the middle of the 20th century, before the flat-pack era of the 1970s onwards, is often good quality and hand-finished. Although it was often designed to be affordable to meet the needs of the home-decorating boom of the post-war period, traditional techniques were still being used with dovetail joints, solid wood frames and brass screws. Pieces were delivered fully assembled with care instructions, often with long guarantees. As a result, many of this furniture is still in excellent condition, and any wear is superficial. It's exciting to find a unique item to become a fascinating focal point in your home, bringing warmth and personality to today's interiors.
Part of the charm of older furniture is likely to be its character; at LucianLinnell Vintage we try to keep pieces as original as possible, whilst refreshing them so they fit effortlessly into a modern home. We don't upcycle, we restore as much as we possibly can. Sometimes pieces will retain some signs of use including wear, marks and residual smells. We try to photograph any flaws and we make sure that items are clean and polished.
Manufacturing techniques, materials and guidelines have changed over the past decades, and vintage items are often sold with original features; these may include original glass, upholstery and electrics. We try to make clear what has been replaced and what is original, so that you can make an informed decision about whether the piece is right for you.
